I’ve been helping people make mortgage decisions since 2004.
A lot has changed since then. The mortgage market changed. My clients’ lives changed. And the questions they ask me changed too. What started as helping people buy their first homes has evolved into helping homeowners make increasingly important decisions about mortgages, debt, home equity, real estate and their financial future.

My clients grew up. So did the conversations.
When I started in 2004, many of the people I worked with were buying their first homes. Then they bought their next homes. They got married, had children, changed careers, started businesses, bought rental properties, built equity, accumulated investments and eventually started thinking about retirement.
- Should I pay down my mortgage or invest?
- Should I use some of my home equity?
- Can I restructure my debt and improve cash flow?
- How should I finance another property?
- Does it make sense to break my mortgage?
- How should my mortgage fit into my retirement plans?
The mortgage became part of a much bigger conversation. And that is where I believe I provide the most value today.
I’ve made many of these decisions myself.
Outside the mortgage business, I’ve spent years building businesses and investing in residential and commercial real estate. I’ve borrowed money to buy properties, managed debt and cash flow, evaluated investments, dealt with tenants, renovations, financing decisions and changing markets. That experience has influenced the way I advise clients.
A mortgage isn’t just a product to me. It’s capital. It’s cash flow. It’s risk. It’s flexibility. And sometimes it’s an opportunity. Understanding how those pieces fit together often matters much more than finding a rate that is a few basis points lower.
Experience gives you perspective.
After more than 20 years in mortgages, I’ve learned that the best decision isn’t always the most obvious one. The lowest rate isn’t always the lowest-cost mortgage. Paying off your mortgage faster isn’t always the best use of your money. Accessing home equity isn’t always a bad idea - or a good one. And changing lenders isn’t automatically better than staying where you are.
There are very few absolute answers. The right answer depends on your numbers, your circumstances and what you’re trying to accomplish. My job is to help you work through those decisions.
Recognized by the people I serve.
I’m proud to have been recognized with the Consumer Choice Award for Mortgage Brokers in St. John’s — a four-year winner, 2023–2027. Awards aren’t why I do this work, but I appreciate what the recognition represents: trust built with clients and relationships developed over many years. I’m also a proud member of the St. John’s Board of Trade.
I also serve on Mortgage Professionals Canada’s Atlantic Advisory Council — a board role I’ve held since 2011 — and I’m a member of BOMA NL, the Building Owners and Managers Association of Newfoundland.

Read all 59 reviews on GoogleMark helped my partner and I get our first home 5 years ago. He advised us on the goverment supports for first time buyers. Mid the five-year mortgage cycle, he advised us on the right steps to follow to prepare for the mortgage maturity period and take the best advantage of our finances to get our second home and keep the first one as an investment…
Went through Mark as my mortgage broker, he was very easy to work with and gave exellent advise on how proced with my mortgage. He was well informed with today's housing market, and was available to talk whenever I had a question. I would have no problem recommending mark to anyone who is looking for a mortgage broker.
I've worked with Mark for the past 5 years and to say he goes above and beyond would be an understatement! Mark helped me with my first home purchase and recently negotiating my first renewal. He is thoughtful in answering my questions and is always proactively monitoring the market with my best interest in mind. Through working with Mark, I've felt a tremendous comfort of a having a true professional working in my corner (plus, I've saved a ton of money!)…
I like solving financial problems.
Sometimes the answer is straightforward. Sometimes we need to look at five different ways of structuring the mortgage before one clearly makes sense. That’s the part of this business I enjoy. Give me the numbers. Tell me what you’re trying to accomplish. Let me understand the problem. Then I’ll help you work through the options.
I don’t sell interest rates. I build mortgage strategies.
Away from mortgages.
I’ve spent more than 20 years helping people make better decisions with their mortgages, but my experience goes well beyond mortgage financing. I’m an entrepreneur, business owner and real estate investor who has started multiple companies and built my own real estate portfolio with more than $6 million in assets right here in our local market. That experience gives me a different perspective on financing, leverage, cash flow and building wealth — and it’s why I look beyond simply finding you a mortgage to understand the bigger financial picture.
Newfoundland has always been home. I grew up between St. John’s and Mount Pearl, went to school in Ontario, and have spent more than a decade living on the St. John’s North/Torbay border. I’m a husband, dad and Frenchie owner, with a kind but tell-it-like-it-is approach, a healthy Gen X dose of sarcasm, and a belief that we don’t have to take everything quite so seriously.
I’m also an avid car enthusiast and lifelong music fan. I grew up with the radio always on and have since been to hundreds of rock concerts, both near and far. On nice evenings, you can often find me running the trails around Signal Hill — usually thinking about a mortgage strategy, an upcoming rock concert, or my next car purchase.
Your mortgage is too important to leave to chance.
Let’s look at where you are today and where you’re trying to go.
